The Iveagh Hostel is the largest and oldest independent Hostel in
Ireland, currently accommodating **Apply on the website** men in
single rooms. Established in **Apply on the website**, its purpose has
remained constant ? to provide safe, clean and comfortable
accommodation to men in need, respecting their autonomy and privacy.
Hostel staff have an important role in welcoming and supporting
residents throughout their stay, and often act as a personal support
for residents in need of advice or when in difficulty.
POSITION: HOSTEL HOUSEKEEPER (PERMANENT POST)
REFERENCE: HH**Apply on the website**
LOCATION: Bride Road, Dublin 8
REPORTING TO: Hostel Manager
HOURS: Ranging from **Apply on the website** - **Apply on the
website** hours on a four-week rota, including one weekend in four*.
CONTRACT: Permanent, with a six-month probationary period.
ANNUAL LEAVE: **Apply on the website** days per annum
SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL:
* At least 2 years? experience as a cleaner, housekeeper and/or an
equivalent ancillary role.
* Qualification/certification in cleaning/hygiene best practice.
* Core understanding of Health & Safety regulations and incident
management.
DESIRABLE:
* Experience of working in a similar environment (hostel, hotel, or
residential facility).
* Experience of working in a service for vulnerable adults.
ATTITUDE / KNOWLEDGE
* Commitment to the highest standards of excellence in hygiene and
health and safety.
* Ability to communicate well and demonstrate a polite, caring and
friendly service to residents.
* A willingness to listen and engage with people.
* Understanding of professional boundaries and how to maintain them.
* A can-do attitude and willingness to do whatever is required to
ensure the safety and wellbeing of all in the Hostel.
* Honesty, integrity and capacity to work without supervision.
* Flexibility and a willingness to be part of a team.
PRINCIPAL TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
* To provide housekeeping services to residents in allocated areas.
* To ensure allocated areas are cleaned to a high standard as per
schedule.
* To report health and safety issues as required in a timely
fashion.
* To support residents in a personable and friendly manner reporting
issues of concern to the Supervisor/Deputy Manager.
* To follow all Health & Safety obligations related to risk
management, the use of PPE and of chemical products, use of proper
equipment, ladders etc.
* To liaise with other staff in regard to major cleaning, when
required.
* As part of the Hostel staff team, to support other staff in
relation to resident issues, if and when they arise, especially in
regard to:
* Fire Safety, especially regular checks as required in the Hostel
Procedures.
* Other Health Safety issues.
* Provision of meals and food.
* Maintenance and cleanliness of bedrooms.

additional tasks, commensurate with the role. Also, the job may entail
some lifting. Training in manual handling as appropriate will be
provided._
